Beppi Crosariol, Globe & Mail

A Bordeaux-inspired red blend, it’s composed of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and petite verdot. From a tough, late start-vintage, it pulled through to a fine finish with whispers of leather and mint joining the cassis. Feb. 8, 2014

This is a blend of 42% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% of Malbec and Petit Verdot. It begins dramatically with aromas spicy red fruit and chocolate. Firm but rich in texture, it has flavours of black cherry, black berry and liquorice. As it breathes, the wine opens to offer a pleasing spoonful of sweet fruit to the palate. Feb. 1, 2014

This is the one that planted the idea for this column. Here is dark, fresh, blackberry-jam aroma with intense and luscious flavours and a hint of sweetness on the front palate. With the first sip, there are also hints of espresso. For chocolate, for sure, or lamb on the grill or beef roasted or barbecued. This one is the costliest wine on the table today. What a stunner. Slow sipping definitely suggested. Consensus: most likely the best of the bunch this time.” Oct. 24, 2012

This impressive red Meritage blends Cabernet Sauvignon with 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, and together they present affluent aromas of sweet black currents, raspberry, vanilla and fresh rainforest floor. The palate is juicy – plums, cherries and mocha lead the charge followed by sweet spices and licorice. Lovely concentration and balance with a long, smooth finish. Delish!” April 6, 2011

A special release with a mouth painted label by quadriplegic artist Robb Dunfield. The nose is a mix of pepper and black olive, herbal, cassis aromas mixed with smoky, coffee, vanilla notes. Round, dry, elegant, slightly tannic palate with dried herbs, savoury, peppery, mocha, resin, black olive, tobacco leaf, coriander, cedar flavours with balance and finesse. A solid effort.” Nov. 24, 2009
