Spring Bud Break!

The mild and sunny spring weather this April has brought bud break today at our south Langley estate vineyard. This annual rite of spring is an important time for vine development in which small shoots emerge from vine buds.

In the vineyards, we have been busy pruning and replacing some vines. At our Langley vineyard, we’ve completed vine pruning and tying, and are in the process of removing the cuttings. At our Naramata and Blue Terrace estate vineyards, the pruning and tying is also complete and we are in the process of getting our drip irrigation system ready for the summer, as well as replacing some posts. In Naramata, we are pulling out some of our Gewürztraminer and later this spring will be planting Pinot Noir. We also removed the Malbec and Petit Verdot mixed block. We are replacing that with a mixed block of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier specifically for our seven stars sparkling program.

We have a new, earth friendly project underway in Naramata, stay tuned more to come tomorrow…
