A harvest red

We’ve started to bring in our 2022 reds from our Okanagan vineyards with our Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and some of the Cabernet Sauvignon picked. More Cabernet Sauvignon is still to come and then it’s a wrap for the season!

We’re enjoying our recently released Cabernet Franc from the 2019 harvest, which was similar to recent years in growing degree days (GDD) but felt cooler, as many of the GDD came earlier in the year. Overall, the 2019 wines are showing juicy and vibrant fruit, with moderate alcohol levels and ripe tannins in the red wines.

The 2019 Benchmark Series Cabernet Franc was produced from the Raju vineyard in Osoyoos, located close to the US border, where the southern heat allows for full ripening of this variety. A 16-day fermentation with pigeage and delestage management of the grapes enables rich fruit extraction. A multi-layered Cabernet Franc, it has beautiful aromas of black raspberry, wild strawberry, fresh violet, and caramel, along with light notes of eucalyptus. The palate shows cassis with good tannin integration and savoury spice flavours. The texture is silky and supple while being medium to full bodied. Fabulous with grilled balsamic pork tenderloin and a strawberry compote or try a vegetable lasagna. Only 670 cases made, the wine is a club exclusive; retailing for $43.97.
