Celebrate the beauty of winter solstice with one of our new reds. We’ve recently released the 2017 vintages of NBO and Reserve 7, which are lovely wines for the holiday season and for enjoying on long winter nights.
Our NBO is produced predominately from one of our favourite vineyard sites, our estate Blue Terrace Vineyard. A classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it perfectly displays the terroir of our Blue Terrace vineyard. Its stony soils retain heat throughout the cool September and October evenings allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon to thoroughly ripen. The Merlot adds subtlety and softness to the structure and strength of the Cabernet. Try our Left Bank style Bordeaux blend with a braised lamb or truffled mushroom risotto.
A Merlot based Bordeaux blend, this vintage of Reserve 7 was also primarily crafted from our estate Blue Terrace Vineyard in Oliver. We chose Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with rich, ripe fruit flavours and Cabernet Franc from the Raju vineyard in Osoyoos where warm temperatures develop rich ripeness. In addition, small amounts of Merlot from Front Yard in Naramata tempers the final blend. Try our Right Bank style Bordeaux blend with a char grilled flank steak or a tomato and olive tapenade.
We invite you to welcome winter this afternoon with the annual “Penhenge” gathering in Penticton on Munson Mountain around 2:45 p.m. (in advance of sunset at 3:27 p.m). The ancient custom marks Sun’s southernmost setting point and the start of ever-increasing longer days until the Summer Solstice in June. Penhenge designer and retired scientist at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory, Chris Purton will be in attendance to answer questions as well as describe the significance of what is taking place. The gathering is being organized the Okanagan Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. New this year, Sam McNally of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra will play a “horn fanfare” at the moment of sunset on Munson Mountain. An eight-minute, three-movement piece will also be performed afterwards at a post-solstice celebration at nearby Township 7 Winery from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m where participants from the Munson Mt. observance are invited to attend to warm themselves, share some seasonal cheer and celebrate the return of the sun!
